Daniil Medvedev is arguably one of the best players in the current lot of male tennis players. Turning pro in 2014, the current World No. 2 has always been a dominant player on the court. With his unconventional playing style, the 26-year-old has already reached some of the biggest feats in a tennis career like being the World No.1, winning Grand Slams, and the Nitto ATP Finals.
The Russian has an enormous fan base that never fails to acknowledge the aura of the player. However, some time back, former World No. 1 on the women’s side, Naomi Osaka expressed her point of view on Medvedev. Talking to the media, Naomi Osaka asserted Medvedev seemed unique to her. She also said that she finds the 2021 US Open champion interesting.
Recently, Medvedev replied to Osaka’s remarks.
Daniil Medvedev on Naomi Osaka
Daniil Medvedev is currently playing at the ATP Masters 1000 Miami Open. He recently won his 4th round match against Jenson Brooksby. During his post-match press conference, the top-seeded Medvedev was asked about his thoughts or opinions on Naomi Osaka.
Taking the question with utmost dignity, Medvedev started by confessing that he doesn’t know Osaka personally. He also opened about up about his concern that stops him from talking about someone who he doesn’t know so well. He said, ” I don’t know her close as a person, so it would be tough for me to talk about it. I mean, I don’t like to talk about people, because what I see is going to be articles in the media.”
The ups and downs of Oska’s careers
Naomi Osaka has had a gracious-looking tennis career. Turning pro in 2013, just like Medvedev, Osaka also has reached some of the biggest feats in a tennis player’s life. What’s more? The Japanese sensation has a huge fan base, who treat her nothing less than a celebrity. However, being a celebrity also comes with a long list of disadvantages. The player often falls prey to her own stardom, suffering difficult scenarios a lot of times.
Medvedev feels no different. Going further with his opinion on Naomi, Medvedev said, “She won a lot of Grand Slams, she’s one of the best in the world. Every time she plays, I think stadiums are close to be packed or packed. She’s a superstar, a lot of contracts, a lot of attention, which is sometimes tough for her, as we see.”
Even though Osaka does face difficult situations because of her stardom, the player always fights against it and comes out stronger than before. Ending his view on Oska, Medvedev said, “I think she seems like a very strong person in her own way and definitely strong tennis player. A lot of respect to her for what she’s doing.”
On the tennis front, both the players faced early exits in Indian Wells. However, making a comeback, both the players are on a high in Miami. While Medvedev is in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open, Osaka has already reached the semifinals.
