World No. 13 Emma Raducanu revealed Li Na and Simona Halep were the two players she looked up to while growing up. At just 19 years of age, Raducanu is already a Grand Slam champion and on the verge of breaking into the top-10.
“Growing up, the two players that I looked up to were Li Na because of her mental strength and incredible movement,” Raducanu told Vogue, as revealed on Sportskeeda, “and Simona Halep, because I love the way she played and was able to fight, without being the biggest player out there.”
Raducanu revealed she prefers to have a “good meal” before matches. “I practice and have a good meal before the game to make sure I have enough fuel in the tank,” Raducanu revealed. “This changes from tournament to tournament, but it’s usually pasta or rice and fish.
I will get in my match kit after practice and I’ll usually relax until it’s time to play. I’ll do another physical warm-up before going on court.”
Raducanu can’t do anymore hobbies she used to do
“There are a lot that I love and used to do, but can’t really anymore, such as motocross and go-karting,” Raducanu said.
“I don’t have as much time and need to be more careful to stay injury free, but I love to go fast and push myself out of my comfort zone. I am a big fan of running, particularly during the last couple of years. I find it’s a great time to switch off and think about things on my own.”
Raducanu is striving to become one of the best players on the WTA Tour and that includes working hard and having a strict diet. “I obviously do a lot of physical training for my tennis,” Raducanu said. “I am particular about my diet.
I keep to my breakfast routine and take my time to get it right each morning, both because of the nutritional value and taste, but also because I enjoy it. Yoga is also something I do a lot of and I incorporate it into my usual training routine.”
