David Ferrer commented on the current moment of men’s tennis, divided by the Big Three, struggling with injuries and other problems, which demonstrate their strength in big tournaments (especially Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, given the long absence of Roger Federer, who however, he did not disappoint the expectations in the few games played in 2021), and the new generation which is taking up more and more space.

The former Spanish tennis player, a specialist above all on clay, even boasts a final in 2013 at Roland Garros, the year in which he obtained the semifinal at the Australian Open and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, becoming third in the ATP world rankings.

In 2019 he announced his retirement from competitions. The Spaniard confessed all his opinions in an interview with Sky Sport, together with another former athlete of the caliber of the Australian Mark Philippoussis.

He said: “Everything will be tighter next year.

Nole is one of the best players on the planet. Roger Federer’s problem is that he will not play in Australia and there are serious doubts that he will be in Wimbledon (practically half a season out). Right now Djokovic is playing well and healthy,” he underlined, speaking of the three champions who currently have the same Major titles (20).

On the players under 25 who have appeared in the very first positions of the ranking, he added: “They are improving every year. But we cannot compare this generation with Rafa, Roger and Novak, because it is impossible.

They are the three best in history. For me Zverev, Medvedev and Tsitsipas are the ones who should be there. Carlos Alcaraz is only 18, but he is improving a lot and has a great future. His team is really strong with Juan Carlos Ferrero at the helm, but the most important factor is that he is humble and knows how to listen.”

As we know, Novak Djokovic will not play the ATP Cup 2021, and his partecipation at the Australian Open 2022 is still in doubt. Rafael Nadal is better after he got the COVID-19 and there is some hopes to see it in Melbourne. Roger presence at Wimbledon 2022 is in doubt; the Swiss’ come back is expecting for the middle 2022.
